Yesterday we had our big tree cut down in our backyard. It was kind of sad saying goodbye to that gigantic tree. But a few years ago there was another one just like it back there that fell over (luckily missing the house and the fence, just landing nicely in the backyard.) So to avoid this one falling not quite so nicely it was decided that it had to go.
This guy had spikes on his shoes that allowed him to climb up the tree...
Even where there were no branches!!!
The boys loved watching for the most part. It took a long time so they were in and out of interest. But I was facinated on how they took it down. It was very interesting to me.

Definitely a job I couldn't do - hanging from a tree with a leather strap and spikey shoes??? Yikes! When we had some guys come out and trim and skin our palm trees they had the same type of setup - spikey shoes and a leather strap around their waist and tree - and they had these huge razorblade-like-saws that they just cut all the bark off with until they got to the top and could chop off the ugly dead branches - it's insane to watch! I just knew one of them would fall into my empty pool and die, but luckily they didn't. Anyway, what I'm saying is that I'm really grateful for people that do these jobs, but I think they're insane!
